Why Sports Massage?

Sixty percent of a horse's body weight is muscle. Muscles are never idle and ordinarily respond to stress or injury by hypercontraction. This results in unnecessary stress and damage to an opposing muscle or joint. If one set of muscles is tight, the horse will compensate by tensing up and overworking an alternate muscle group.

If your horse exhibits the following behavior, it could be a sign of tight, sore muscles or muscle spasms:

  • Sore Back
  • Lack of Forward Impulsion
  • Not Bending Laterally
  • Girth Discomfort
  • Inability to Balance Up
  • Trailer/Stall Stiffness
  • Not Tracking Evenly
  • Not Picking Up Correct Lead
  • Tight Jaw
  • Switching Leads
  • Tying Up
  • Excessive Head Tossing
  • Shortened Strides
  • Resisting Neck Motion to Opposite Side
  • Cribbing
  • Shoulder or Hip Lameness
